Happy Independence Day

4th of July in Afghanistan. Here I was being protected by a Kiwi bodyguard, driven by a Romanian driver, screaming across an Afghan city with Yankee Doodle blaring from the car radio. Not like any other 4th I have ever celebrated.

My holiday experience started off much better than yours. I enjoyed fresh fruits, salads and the finest meats and spirits available for a splenid 4th of July BBQ dinner. All this was before a wonderfully colorful parade where I was the Grand Marshall. Then, the locals shot off fireworks as they sang our National Anthem and cheered and clapped our presence. It was so wonderful...until the medication wore off and I realized I was in the same ****hole as you. Happy 4th of July Mister.
